A teenager from Bristol is one of two people charged after a shooting in a Cardiff suburb.
The incident happened at a house in Clos y Ffynnon, Pontprennau at about 8pm on Saturday, June 7, and a teenager aged 15 was hospitalised.
Police have confirmed that his injuries are not life-threatening.
Set to face Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (June 19) are Ashley Corbin, 20, from Bristol, and a 17-year-old youth, also from Bristol who can’t be named for legal reasons.
They are charged with owning a firearm with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Detectives apprehended the duo in Bristol on Monday, June 16. Four others were detained in connection with the case.
Released on bail while further inquiries into separate matters continue are
- An 18-year-old woman from Newport
- An 18-year-old man from Cardiff
- A 22-year-old Newport man.
A 22-year-old male from Bristol has been granted bail in relation to the shooting.
Detective Superintendent Mark O’Shea of South Wales Police described the case as “complex”, noting the close collaboration between the force and Avon & Somerset Police. He stated: “This has and continues to be a complex investigation led by the Major Crime Investigation Team of South Wales Police,” reports Wales Online.
The police expressed their appreciation for Cardiff’s community, saying: “We have deployed all available detectives into this case, to ensure a robust policing response, reflective of our determination to relentlessly pursue anyone who chooses to bring firearms into our communities.”
They added: “I would like to thank the community of Cardiff for their continued understanding and for the support provided to our detectives. Valuable information from the community has contributed to the significant progress we have made since this incident has happened.”
The victim’s relatives have been kept informed about ongoing investigatory movements, receiving consistent support throughout: “The victim’s family has been updated on developments, and they continue to be supported.”
