Leeds United have plans in mind to improve Elland Road in the coming years.

The Whites revealed plans to enhance the LS11 stadium in April 2025, with a view to increasing the capacity from 37,645 to 56,500.

There is hope to keep the elements of the ground that make it as iconic as it is, while regenerating around 30 acres of land in the surrounding area.

As positive as all this could prove to be at Elland Road, plans may soon be put on hold after what has been said on talkSPORT this week.

With the Yorkshire club back in the Premier League and these plans drawn up, it looks to be an exciting time for everyone associated with LS11.

This has seen Daniel Farke guide his side to promotion, with the hopes of bucking the trend to survive as a new side in the division.

It is fair to say that this will be far from an easy task, with new signings certainly required, with a free transfer already done for Lukas Nmecha after his release from Wolfsburg.

Whoever else comes in needs to be good enough to keep the Whites in the league, if not, the stadium plans could be thrown into doubt.

This is the opinion of former Leeds boss David O’Leary, who told talkSPORT (19 June, 09:14am) what could happen if a Premier League place isn’t maintained.

He said: “These clubs that come up, the way the rules are with what they can spend, they’re against them as well as trying to stay up. Leeds is a Premier League club with a great fanbase and a great history.

“They’ve got to invest, they want to build a new stadium, and the only way that can get built is by staying in the Premier League, not yo-yoing up and down. For their future and to build that new stadium, they need to be a club that is regularly in the Premier League.”

Farke must keep Leeds United in the Premier League

The German head coach has already come under pressure despite guiding his side to a Championship title and 100 points.

This just sums up how willing Paraag Marathe and Co. could be to pull the sack trigger if they feel necessary in the upcoming season.

The fact that redevelopment plans at Elland Road could collapse if Farke isn’t successful could prove to be a driving force behind any decisions.

As a result, links to the likes of Jose Mourinho at Leeds may be set to return to the fore in the near future if the Whites don’t hit the ground running in the Premier League.
