Road shut after ’emergency gas escape’

A Cadent spokesperson said: “Our engineers are currently working at the junction of Hall Lane and Tailor’s Lane in Maghull to repair an intersecting pipeline that supplies gas to both streets.

“The section requiring repair is located directly at the junction, which means the work involves complex engineering to encapsulate the existing structure. To ensure safe access for our engineers, we’ve had to close the road at the junction – access is restricted to residents only.

“We expect to complete the project by the middle of next week and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

“During works like these it is a good reminder that if at any point, day or night, residents smell gas, they call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999*. Do not assume it is related to this work – it may not be and needs to be checked out.”
