The successful operation has been winding down, although eight ambulances were still at the scene late into the evening, with some still being treated.

A spokesman for the NI Ambulance Service said they received a call at 9.14pm following reports of a water-related incident near Carrick Marina.

“Early reports indicated that the incident involved nine children and one adult,” he said.

“NIAS despatched multiple resources to the scene, which was also attended by MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency), PSNI and NIFRS.

“After assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken by ambulance to RBHSC (the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children) while the rest were discharged at the scene.”

A police spokesperson said the PSNI received a report of a capsized boat in the water near the Fisherman’s Quay area of Carrickfergus shortly after 9.10pm.

Inspector Bryan said: “Officers attended, along with colleagues from other emergency services and a number of people were rescued from the water.

“There have been no reports of any serious injuries at this time and all those on the boat have been accounted for.”
