Physical trainers Roisin Clifford and Darragh Keogh

A Killarney woman who made an astonishing recovery after breaking her back in a horse riding accident in 2021 is now using her skills as a personal trainer to help teenagers to build confidence, improve fitness and learn how to train the right way.

Roisin Clifford required extensive and painstaking rehabilitation after her accident but, during that difficult recovery period, she discovered her true calling in health and fitness.

She spent long hours in the gym  improving her physical recovery and mental well-being and the success of her own transformation, through exercise and weight loss, sparked a new passion, leading her to become a certified personal trainer.

Roisin (27) made a wonderful recovery and she has now teamed up with professional boxer and fitness coach Darragh Keogh to help others to get in shape. They are based at the Peak Performance Academy in Killarney and they will host a teen fitness and boxing camp from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3.

Roisin and Darragh have worked closely with the Kerry senior football team at the Centre of Excellence in Currans and they have also provided valuable strength and conditioning services to a number of GAA clubs in the county.

Professional boxer Darragh, whose father Don is a well-known pharmacist in Sneem, brings a wealth of experience to the role following a successful boxing career while he also holds a degree in sports science as well as being a qualified personal trainer.

Darragh enjoyed a successful run on the boxing circuit in Australia

Darragh (30) enjoyed a successful run on the boxing circuit in Australia where he won several amateur titles and was crowned the Australian Gold Coast champion and North Queensland champion in 2018. He also won an Australian Golden Glove Championship in 2019 and was an Australian Boxing Council Champion in 2021.

He turned professional in July 2021 and went undefeated in three fights in the super welterweight category. Since his recent return to Killarney, Darragh has concentrated on coaching and passing on his boxing skills to others.

The four-day camp, which will run from 11.00am to 1.30pm each day, for boys and girls aged from 13 to 16, will feature a mix of boxing, physical training and practical gym education.
