Emmerdale spoilers follow for Friday’s episode (20 June).

Emmerdale‘s Victoria Sugden was left injured following a disturbing attack by her brother Robert.

After being released from prison earlier this week, Robert returned to the village and made it clear that he’s here to stay. He was taken in by Victoria, who quickly began to notice his strange behaviour.

In today’s episode, concerned Victoria confronted her brother about why he was awake in the middle of the night. She said she went to check on him but his room was empty and his bed hadn’t been slept in.

“I’ve been having some nightmares. I’m sure it’ll pass once I’ve got prison out of my system,” he told her, adding that he didn’t want to discuss it further.

When Robert shared his plan to get a job so he can make a fresh start, Victoria suggested life would be easier for him if he moved away. However, he explained that starting again elsewhere as an ex-con would be worse and instead promised to leave Aaron alone.

While on his job hunt, Robert approached Caleb at the depot and tried to pitch his services. Caleb, who was informed about Robert by Cain, quickly shut him down. However, he later reconsidered and offered Robert a trial – which John and Aaron were unhappy to hear about.

Back at home, Robert shared his excitement about his job, but Victoria had other matters on her mind. She told him their conversation from earlier made her realise what a “mess” his head was in.

“You have to face up to it, Robert,” she pleaded. “You know, you’re having nightmares because you can’t shake prison off. You’re living in the past and you’ve got a real chance of a future now.”

The pair then decided to celebrate Robert’s new prospects with Victoria popping out to get supplies. She told Robert to take a nap as he hadn’t been sleeping well.

Robert was fast asleep on the sofa when Victoria returned, with his nightmares still in full force. He was startled by the sound of her popping the cork on a champagne bottle.

As she tapped his leg to wake him up, he jolted out of his sleep, accidentally hitting her across the face. Horrified Robert tried to help his sister but Victoria ordered him out of the house.

Will she be able to forgive his actions?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
