Gillingham Grange, located on Furnham Rd, Chard, will provide residential, dementia and respite care for up to 66 elderly people, with a team of professionals delivering “people-centred” experiences.

This home, opening in August (exact date to be confirmed) is Oyster Care Homes’ twelfth environmentally friendly home, named in ode to Chard-born James Gillingham – a 1860s pioneer in the prosthetic limb industry.

According to managing director at Oyster Care Homes Em Dean, Gillingham Grange will also be providing 60 new jobs to the local community.

A spokesperson for Gillingham Grange care home said: “Valuing quality, dignity and compassion, the team at Gillingham Grange will provide a holistic approach to elderly care, encompassing not just healthcare but also emotional, social and intellectual support.”

The home will include an open-plan social area, spacious bedrooms with en-suite wet rooms, “state-of-the-art facilities” including a hair salon, landscaped gardens, a library, bistro and on-sit cinema.

The home will also be using solar panels and ground source heat pump technology to stay eco-friendly.

Em Dean said: “We’re delighted to be opening to doors of Gillingham Grange in August 2025, where we’ll provide excellent care for older people and exciting new career opportunities for the local people.
