GRIFFIN — A ribbon-cutting of a different sort was held on June 18 at the Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce office as AT&T celebrated the expansion of its fiber optic internet in the Griffin area.
Colin Martin, Area Manager for External Affairs at AT&T of Georgia, stated that AT&T Fiber is now available to more than 7,500 residential and business locations in the Griffin area. The expanded network will provide customers with access to super-fast internet speeds of up to 5 gigabits.
“These new locations are in addition to the more than 14,500 customer locations across Spalding County that currently have access to AT&T Fiber,” noted Martin. “Residents can find out when fiber is available at their address at our website, att.com/notifyme.
AT&T is the nation’s largest provider of fiber internet. Additionally, AT&T Fiber is the nation’s fastest internet offering the most reliable speeds.
“AT&T Fiber delivers speeds of up to 5 gigabits per second, paired with network reliability, for everyday needs, such as helping students stay connected, enabling remote work, and expanding telehealth access,” stated Martin. “Customers can connect multiple devices, stream content, upload files, and enjoy ultra-low lag for pro-level gaming — all at the same time.”
AT&T is committed to connecting more Americans to reliable, high-speed internet by offering a variety of flexible plans available at great value. This includes Access from AT&T, which offers speeds of up to 100 megabits per second for $30 per month, plus tax and fees.
“From 2020 to 2024, AT&T invested more than $16.9 billion in its wireless and wireline networks in Georgia,” said Martin.. “That investment has increased reliability, coverage, and overall performance for residents and businesses.
Access to high-speed, reliable internet is a critical driver for attracting new businesses, supporting existing companies, and fostering innovation throughout Griffin region. AT&T’s investment in fiber infrastructure will help empower local companies to compete on a global scale and support workforce training opportunities to meet the demands of a 21st-century economy.
“At AT&T, we are committed to closing the digital divide by expanding our fiber footprint and delivering ultra-fast internet that keeps residents and businesses connected,” stated Martin. “We are proud to invest in the Griffin community and to build the modern, high-speed network infrastructure essential for today’s economy.”
State Representative Karen Mathiak of Griffin attended the ribbon-cutting and said she is proud to see AT&T’s continued investment in Griffin with the expansion of fiber internet services.
“Reliable, high-speed connectivity is essential in today’s world — every family, student, and individual in our community,” said Mathiak. “This investment will help open doors to new educational opportunities, enhance access to community resources, and improve the everyday lives of residents. Together, we are helping ensure Griffin remains a vibrant, connected city where everyone can thrive.”
