A campsite an hour’s drive from Bristol which has been rated among the country’s best is an “absolute gem”.
Station Farm, in Westhay, Somerset, has been given the recognition by Pitch Up after having an overall rating of 10, based on 35 reviews.
The campsite is located in a small working farm just five miles from Glastonbury. The site describes itself as a riverside wildlife haven, with a key highlight being the fact each pitch has a firepit.
Station Farm is known for its rich bird life, walks and bike routes. It says on its listing: “Just next to the farm is a river that’s fab for kayaking, paddleboarding, wild swims and fishing (permit required).
“Sticking to dry land, there’s plenty of space for kids to run about and greet the farm animals (ponies, sheep, pigs, donkeys and free-range poultry).
“Each pitch is provided with a barbecue/firepit (with logs and kindling available to buy) so you’ll also have space to keep warm once evening falls.
“This is an off-grid site so it’s a good idea to bring a torch along; toilets, showers, drinking water and a covered washing-up area are a short walk from each pitch.”
A recent reviewer said: ” This is a lovely campsite, great facilities, lots to do and the owners are very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be staying again.”
And another one said: “This is an absolute gem of a campsite. A beautiful, peaceful location, excellent facilities and great hosts. We loved it so much we’re going back in a couple of weeks time.”
Earlier this month, we featured another campsite within an hour’s drive of the city that is “fantastic” for wild swimming.
Stowford Manor Farm is located in Wingfield, Wiltshire, which is a 45-minute drive from Bristol.
And, according to Pitch Up, the site is among the top campsites in the country to enjoy some wild swimming.
Pitchup.com founder Dan Yates said that in the past twelve months, the platform has seen a notable increase in sites featuring wild swimming.
