Four fire engines attended the hotelFire crews attended the city centre hotel
Firefighters rushed to a city centre hotel following reports of a fire. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said fire crews were called to a high rise hotel building on Henry Street in the city centre, believed to be Popworks Hotel, at 2.40pm before arriving at the scene at 2.44pm.
Four fire engines and an aerial appliance arrived at the scene, with crews arriving to find a fire around one metre square in a decking area on the roof of the hotel which was extinguished quickly using buckets and a fire extinguisher.
The fire was then dampened down by fire crews at the scene using a jet hose and the areas of the decking cut away to prevent the fire spreading.
Rooms below the decking were checked and cleared. At the time the fire service sent a statement to the ECHO, one fire engine remained at the scene.
