Dolphins have been captured on camera jumping out of the water off the Kent coast.

The playful pod put on an acrobatic display for fishermen near Folkestone.

Neal Boosey, from Folkestone Boat Charter, was on board the Folkestone Voyager when several dolphins went up close to the boat, giving them a show yesterday morning.

“We were out on a trip with some people fishing on board,” the skipper of the boat said.

“We were quite close to Folkestone, just a few miles out, and they were dead ahead of us and initially came over to join us.

“They actually came within a few feet of the boat, and we were so amazed they came right alongside, so we stopped and just watched them for about 10 minutes.

“Then we let them go into the distance. Normally, there’s less than that when we see them, but it was quite a large pod.

“It was a great experience. We don’t see it every day, but it’s nice when you do.”

The video of their encounter has now reached more than 100,000 interactions on social media.

Common dolphins can be found in waters all around the UK, but are more common in the southern and western coastal areas.

They can grow to more than two-and-a-half metres in length, weigh as much as 150kg and live up to 35 years.

Folkestone seems to be a hot spot for dolphin spotting.

Last July, a pod was seen swimming close to the town’s harbour.
