Joshua Kimmich has earned 100 caps now during his time the German national team. A feat that very few players have hit during time with Die Mannschaft. During the Nations League Finals, the Bayern Munich star was asked about his most memorable matches with the national team. Kimmich was quick to provide his answer.
Kimmich named three matches. The Spanish game at the Euros, where there was a wave of euphoria, is an understandable pick. A game that Germany could have won, and with a late equalizer by Florian Wirtz, it is a memorable game for many fans as well. However, is now looked back on with disappointment and frustration.
• When you look back on your national team career, which game(s) do you immediately remember?

• When you look back on your national team career, which game(s) do you immediately remember?
Kimmich: “The Spain game at the Euros, we had the feeling we could’ve won that. The last time I had that feeling was in 2016 when we lost to France in the semifinals. We played a very good tournament and felt we were close. I’d single out those two games. There’s also the Confed Cup final against Chile that we won.”
Kimmich also named the narrow defeat against France at Euro 2016. A game were blunders once again costed the Germans, and were not on the right side of history. But heading into this match, Germans were possibly favorites and coming off a 2014 World Cup win.
Lastly, Kimmich named the 2017 Confederations Cup victory over Chile. Hopefully there are more victories for Kimmich ahead, such as the 2026 World Cup, where Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany should have a strong chance of contention, despite a slip up at the Nations League Finals.
