It resulted in severe disruption

Trains were cancelled after a vehicle struck a railway bridge in Wales. The incident took place on Monday morning at Crosskeys resulting in severe delays between Pye Corner and Ebbw Vale Town.

At its worst passengers were forced to endure hour-long delays.

Transport for Wales has confirmed the line has now re-opened but disruption continued during the day as services returned to normal.

A Transport for Wales (TfW) spokesman said: “Following a road vehicle colliding with a bridge at Crosskeys the line has now reopened.

“Train services running through this station are returning to normal but some services may still be cancelled or delayed.”

Train travellers are entitled to compensation with TfW if there is significant delay to their journey through its ‘delay repay’ system.

The TfW website reads: “Delay repay is based on the time you should have arrived at your final destination station, not the delay to any particular train.

“For example your train may have been only 10 minutes late but caused you to miss a connection and you had to wait an hour or more for the next one. If your train has been cancelled we need to know the time of the train you actually travelled by.

“No more shall be compensated than was paid for the ticket.”

In order to be eligible for compensation you must provide TfW with the date of your journey., the time of the train that was delayed, the origin and destination of your journey, and a scan or photo of the tickets purchased for your journey.

If you’re unable to provide a barcode ticket screenshot, you can submit a screenshot of your booking confirmation email instead.
