Alex Moreno has taken to social media to issue a new message after developments over a potential move to Leeds United from Aston Villa.

Moreno spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest from Villa, and he made 19 appearances for the club but revealed on Instagram that he would not be joining permanently following the conclusion of the campaign.

He looks to have no future in the Second City either, after Football Insider revealed on 14 June that Moreno was open to a move to Leeds this summer due to a lack of opportunities behind both Lucas Digne and Ian Maatsen.

Daniel Farke is clearly focusing on defensive reinforcements ahead of the new season, with centre-back Jaka Bijol signed from Udinese on a five-year deal [Leeds United] on 23 June.

Football Insider also reported on 18 June that Leeds had made contact with Villa over a move for the 32-year-old, and he looks to be preparing for a new challenge in the off-season.

Moreno recently fuelled rumours of a Villa exit by posting a “farewell” message to his Instagram story, and fellow top-flight new boys Sunderland and Burnley have also been linked along with sides in La Liga.

Football Insider verdict

Moreno has not had the best few years in the Premier League since his arrival at Villa from Betis in January 2023, but he has proved his reliability for both the Villans and Forest despite struggling to be first-choice at either club.

The Spaniard has played over 50 times in the English top-flight, and also has experience in multiple European competitions, so it seems a no-brainer for Leeds to bring him in, especially considering their current left-back situation.

Junior Firpo is set to depart Elland Road this summer after rejecting a new contract amid interest from AC Milan, as revealed by Football Insider on 2 June.

That leaves Daniel Farke with no left-backs on his books past the end of this month, as it stands, and so it seems like a pretty straightforward move to bring in Moreno as a player who can start but will also be content with possibly playing second-fiddle.
