Meghan Markle is believed to be “irrelevant” to most of the Royal Family, an expert has said. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, appeared as a guest on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast last week, and made a comment that many believe was a brutal dig at the Royal Family.

When asked if she would do anything differently to change her public narrative years ago, Meghan said: “Yes, I would ask people to tell the truth.” She later then spoke about lies, and how they couldn’t last forever.

While Prince Harry’s wife, who he quit royal duties with in 2020, did not specifically name the royals, Meghan has made similar comments before when talking about royal life, with many now believing this latest comment was about Harry’s royal relatives.

Although the comment may annoy some, one royal expert believes that the royals will not have taken much notice of Meghan’s dig, which is one of many the duchess has made since moving to America with Prince Harry five years ago.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told The Mirror: “I imagine they (the Royal Family) may see a passing headline about Meghan’s latest exploits, but I very much doubt that any of them take much notice about what she is doing or saying.

“She is someone they knew for a very brief period of time. I don’t think Meghan forged a meaningful relationship with any of the royal family – except, obviously, her husband.

“And so I think she is viewed as irrelevant by most of the family.”

While Prince Harry and Meghan still have their royal title as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they are no longer senior working royals and haven’t been for some time, having walked away from duty in 2020.

Since then, the couple – who live on a sprawling estate in Montecito, California – have criticised the Royal Family a number of times, especially in their 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan.

Harry then took this a step further by releasing his bombshell memoir Spare in 2023, which is believed to have resulted in him becoming estranged from his brother Prince William.

The Royal Family have avoided commenting on rumoured rifts over the years.
