Jon DP Shaw met Hearn at Resorts World in Birmingham on Thursday at the press conference ahead of boxer Galal Yafai’s 12-round defeat to Francisco Rodriguez Jr on Saturday night (June 21).
Mr Shaw of DP Boxing described Hearn as ‘charming’ as he chatted with the chairman of Matchroom Sport who has promoted many world championship boxers, including Anthony Joshua, Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, often known as ‘GGG’.
Mr Shaw, 34, of Worcester also praised a team of boxers and fighters boxing under the banner of DP Boxing but said the credit rested with ‘legendary coach’ Malcolm Melvin.
The professional fighters under Mr Melvin’s pupillage include Owen Cooper, Shannon ‘the Cannon’ Taylor, Jake Melvin and bareknuckle fighter Anthony Scotford, fresh from a brutal debut fight with BKB against Aaron Ashton.
Mr Shaw said these boxers were all benefiting from the experience of Mr Melvin as they boxed under the banner of DP Boxing in Sherriff Street in Worcester.
He said: “DP Boxing has a stable of boxers that fight under Malcolm Melvin.”

Mr Shaw added: “The club itself is trying to bridge the gaps for inclusivity in sport, catering for everyone from people who just want to keep fit to people who want to do it to improve their mental health to those with aspirations to become world champions.”
We reported earlier this month how Mr Shaw is due to go up against Tom Redmond, who has Down Syndrome, to raise money for Wildgoose Rural Training.
The 24-year-old from Perdiswell in Worcester has been training at DP Boxing for almost a year. He is believed to be the first boxer with Down Syndrome from the city.
