The Met Office has spoken of the chances of another heatwave for the UK. It has suggested that it “not likely” to be widespread across the country as we saw last week, with the south east of England set to benefit from the highest temperatures this weekend.

In Wales, forecasters have said that whilst we will see spells of rain, the weather will become “increasingly warm and feeling rather humid” at the weekend.

Oli Claydon, from the Met Office, said: “Friday will see a maximum of 27°C again as the high, the showers will clear away to the northeast, with local drizzle in parts of the south west and Wales through the day.”

The south east of England looks set to be the place with the best temperatures with Mr Claydon stating it “could be looking at a short-lived localised heatwave”, potentially reaching 29°C on Saturday and 30°C on Sunday.

The Met Office confirmed one or two areas in Wales, including Cardiff, entered a heatwave last Friday.

Friday was the hottest day of the year so far in Wales with highs of 30.8°C.

An official heatwave is declared when particular UK regions experience set temperatures for three days straight, ranging from thresholds of 25°C to 28°C.

But Mr Claydon added: “When we had the warm spell last week it was much more widespread, we’re not likely to see that.”

A forecast for Wales from Friday to Sunday reads: “Mainly cloudy with occasional spells of rain, but some drier interludes too, especially by Sunday.

“Breezy on Friday with winds easing over the weekend. Increasingly warm and feeling rather humid.”

On Saturday, at 4pm, temperatures rise to 24°C in Monmouth, 215°C in Cardiff, Cardigan, Builth Wells and Newtown and 19°C in Swansea and Merthyr Tydfil.

It will be warmer at the same time on Sunday, as temperatures rise to 25°C in Monmouth, 23°C in Cardiff and Newtown, and 22°C in Builth Wells.

A heatwave is recorded when an area reaches a certain temperature for three consecutive days.
