Having signed Jaka Bijol and solved a big question mark in the middle of Leeds United’s defence, fans are wondering what to expect next from Adam Underwood and the transfer team.
Slovenian giant Bijol has penned a five-year contract at Elland Road for an initial fee of £15m. It sees The Whites move quickly to bring in a player widely regarded as one of Serie A’s best defenders in the air.
Having added competition up top in Lukas Nmecha, Leeds still have plenty to do. A new goalkeeper, a left-back to replace Junior Firpo, a midfielder, a no.10 and a striker remain priorities for Underwood.
But bringing new players to the club will not be the only work Leeds are doing. Indeed, some of their work will be sorting out the futures of Elland Road’s current squad – and that includes winger Dan James.

According to Beren Cross on The Athletic, Leeds are ‘close’ to agreeing a new contract for James. The winger is about to enter the final 12 months of his current deal, signing five-year terms back in 2021.
It comes after reports of Everton showing interest in James. Cross reports that James is currently on holiday but Leeds are confident that when he returns and the moment is right, a deal will be signed.
LeedsUnited.News understands that Leeds are offering James a smaller contract than the one he agreed in 2021. A wage reflecting the club’s current standing in the Premier League, but still a solid salary.

James is not the only one about to enter the final year of his contract at Leeds. The Whites have several players out of contract in a year and aside from trying to sign players, Leeds need to make a decision.

2020 – permanent
Elsewhere, Patrick Bamford is also about to enter the final year of his deal – as are returning duo Darko Gyabi and Sam Greenwood, who have both been out on loan. Leeds want £3m-£4m for the midfield stars.
