How good was Royal Ascot? So many brilliant races, so many brilliant horses and a affirmation that from a mile upwards, Britain and Ireland can still hold their heads up high as the world leaders in producing exceptional talent.
That is down to the fact that we have the superpowers of Coolmore, Godolphin and Juddmonte, who still breed for those races and as a result we were so lucky to see world-class talent in the likes of Field Of Gold and Ombudsman last week.
However, where we really struggle these days is with the sprinters because once again Royal Ascot proved just how embarrassingly bad we are in that division with Lazzat and Satono Reve being a few classes above our horses in the Jubilee and a bunch of upgraded handicappers fighting out the finish of the King Charles III. American Affair‘s victory was one of the stories of the week, but let’s be honest he’s not fit to lace the boots of a Dayjur, a Mozart, a Stravinsky or an Oasis Dream.
