Manchester City have rejected a £6.5million bid from Hoffenheim for defender Callum Doyle as competition ramps up for the academy graduate’s signature.

The Bundesliga side have seen the offer to sign the 21-year-old knocked back. Serie A outfit Udinese and numerous clubs in England are also interested in Doyle.

Doyle spent last season on loan at Norwich City, and although he has two years remaining on his contract at the Etihad, he is expected to leave on a permanent deal during this window.

The Manchester-born centre-back has been with City since 2014 and was involved in title wins for the Under-18s and Under-21s in 2020/21. He has never made a first-team appearance for the club and has spent the last four seasons out on loan.

He made 44 appearances for League One Sunderland in 2021/22 and spent the last three years in the Championship. He made 46 appearances for Coventry City, 23 for Leicester City, and then 43 for Norwich in the year just gone.

When leaving Carrow Road, Doyle discussed his future and said he felt the time had come to look for a permanent exit from his parent club.

“I think (a permanent move) is the next aim for me,” Doyle told the Pink Un. “It’s my fourth loan now, and I’ve been all over the country.

“I’ve got nothing to say bad about this club. I love it. I’ve loved playing here and at Carrow Road. The fans are great, so you never know (about a return). It just depends on what happens in the summer, to be honest.”
