Wrexham could receive a boost in their reported pursuit of Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford.
The Welsh team, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are preparing for Championship football next season after achieving an incredible third consecutive promotion in April. Wrexham have already been connected with numerous big names this summer as they aim to strengthen their squad, including Leicester legend Jamie Vardy and Fulham captain Tom Cairney.
Bamford is also said to be on the club’s radar, and a favourable development has now arisen which could pave the way for the forward, who has one England cap, to make the move to North Wales. Leeds are keenly seeking established Premier League strikers following their promotion from the second tier last season.
Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz is the top target for Daniel Farke’s team, who had a bid totalling £32million rejected last week, according to the Standard. While their initial attempt to sign the Brazilian was unsuccessful, it could signal the end of Bamford’s tenure at Elland Road in the long term, with a host of new signings expected this summer and the club clearly targeting a new striker.
The 31-year-old has another year remaining on his contract, but may be permitted to depart after struggling with fitness last season. Bamford did not start a single game in the Championship, making 17 substitute appearances without scoring.
Nevertheless, his experience might prove beneficial for Wrexham as they aim to cement their place in the second tier. The Red Dragons have bolstered their attack already since the season ended with Plymouth’s Ryan Hardie joining for an undisclosed sum.

With Wrexham icon Paul Mullin having departed on Monday for a season-long loan at Wigan Athletic, there remains a potential vacancy in the squad for Bamford to fill. Manager Phil Parkinson is expected to continue the overhaul of his squad, with further exits anticipated.
Wrexham recruiter Les Reed recently divulged details about the type of talent the club is seeking this summer. The ex-Charlton Athletic boss outlined the club’s strategy during a chat with the i Paper.
“In the Championship, they [new signings] will need to be athletic,” said Reed. “It’s not swansong land for players who are having one more go before they retire. Our ambition will be to drive the average age down, but at the same time remain competitive.

“We can’t just go ‘that’s it, we’re only going for younger players’. A couple of clubs recently – and I won’t mention their names – have done that, and it hasn’t worked. It will be a mix.”
Reed also tempered expectations regarding Wrexham’s financial capabilities, adding: “We will have a decent budget. Everyone externally thinks we’ve got an unlimited budget because of our owners, but that’s not true. We’ll have a good budget simply because we’ve got very good revenues.
“That’s the benefit of the owners. It’s not their deep pockets, it’s their ability to generate higher revenues, which enables us to spend within the regulations and [offer] decent salaries.”
