In a summer that has seen some dramatic matches and high-scoring affairs in both the UEFA U21 Euros as well as the UEFA U19 Euros, it is the latter that will conclude first with the final between Spain and the Netherlands taking place on Thursday.

Spain were dominant in Group A, with La Rojita picking up three wins from three as they topped their section above host country Romania, as well as Denmark and Montenegro. They scored nine goals and conceded just one in the process.

The Netherlands had more or less the exact same record, with three wins from three and nine goals scored, but the Dutch instead conceded twice in their three outings in a tough group that consisted of Germany, England and Norway.

On paper, it looks like this could be a close one to call on Thursday as these two European powerhouses bid for junior glory. But who has the edge? Let’s take a look at the latest betting and tips from our experts!

There’s a lot to like about this match-up from a betting perspective.

In the semi-finals, Spain produced a stunning come-from-behind victory against Germany to win 6-5 after extra time. That game saw them a goal down until the hour mark before heading into stoppage-time 2-1 down.

A simply crazy injury time period saw the game finish 3-3 after Spain had gone 3-2 up. They went behind again in the first half of extra time before turning things around once more, with Real Betis winger Pablo Garcia notching four goals!

In contrast, Netherlands had it quite easy as they comfortably defeated the hosts Romania 3-1, with goals from Don-Angelo Konadu, Kees Smit and Aymen Sliti.

With so much goalmouth action in those semis, it’s little wonder that we are picking the final to be a high-scoring affair again.

Both Teams To Score: 2/5 (Paddy Power)

Germany were perhaps the main cause of Spain’s chaotic semi-final, given that the Germans also shared a 5-5 draw with England in the group stages, but it was a sign that a good attack can get at a Spanish side who have now scored 15 goals in four games. The Dutch, with 12 in four, will believe they are a slick and cohesive enough attacking unit to create an open and enthralling final for the neutral in Bucharest.

Netherlands to win: 15/8 (Paddy Power)

Spain arguably have the team with the better pedigree and they are the nation with the more recent experience of winning trophies, at all youth levels as well as with the senior side. However, they weren’t really tested in the groups and as soon as they faced tougher opposition, they were generally outplayed by Germany for long spells. The Dutch were composed and comfortable in a tough group before easing past the hosts and look to have enough in the tank to get the job done. They appear a good value bet at this price.

Spain vs. Netherlands expected lineups, team news

Aside from the scorer of four goals in the semi, Pablo Garcia, Spain have a few other standout players in attack, such as new Newcastle United signing Antonio Cordero, whilst Real Sociedad’s Jon Martin is expected to partner Andres Cuenca, of Barcelona, at the back.

  • Spain predicted XI (4-3-3, right to left): Jimenez – Olmedo, Martin, Cuenca, Munoz; Marcos, Merino, Monserrate; Garcia, Janneh, Cordero

Injured: None
Suspended: None

As for the Netherlands, Smit is expected to remain a key man in the centre of the park, capable of bursting forward and posing a real threat to the Spanish. Lucas Vennegoor of Hesselink (son of former Dutch senior international Jan, for those of a certain age) has been pushing for a starting berth throughout the tournament, but it is unlikely to come in for the final.

  • Netherlands predicted XI (4-3-3, right to left): Heerkens; Read, Ugwu, Janse, Dijkstra; Verkuijl, Smit, Land; Oufkir, Konadu, Sliti

Injured: None
Suspended: None
