During Thursday’s instalment of Good Morning Britain, Susanna Reid and Ed Balls faced a somewhat awkward moment on air.
The hosts had been discussing current affairs with Kwasi Kwarteng and Ayesha Hazarika when Susanna took the opportunity to introduce Marks & Spencer’s latest creation – a strawberries and cream sandwich.
Despite initially thinking it was a joke, Susanna, Ed, and their guests got stuck into taste testing. Still, it didn’t seem to be a hit with everyone.
Before even tasting it, Ed expressed his reluctance, commenting: “I really don’t want to, it looks absolutely disgusting.”
Ayesha couldn’t hold back her repulsion, exclaiming: “Oh my gosh, it’s minging! Sorry, it’s minging.”
Ed made his feeling very clear towards the sandwich
Ed chimed in with a preference for something stronger as he added: “I would’ve rather had a gin and tonic.”
Susanna, ever the professional, couldn’t help but laugh as she countered: “You’ll get banned for saying that! I have to say, I thought that was absolutely delicious.”
Ed was seemingly torn over the quirky snack, heading in for a second taste after his initial hesitation. Susanna, however, openly admitted her fondness for the unusual combination, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Wrapping up their time with Ayesha and Kwasi, things got tricky as Susanna and Ed munched on. They ended up in a quiet bind, unable to speak due to their full mouths, which led to off-camera chuckles during the unexpected silent patch.
Ed tried to smoothly transition as he remarked: “Still to come- I don’t think we can do it, can we?” Caught mid-bite, Susanna remained silent leaving Ed to face an awkward silence.

He went on to ask: “What do we do? Do we go to a break? Shall we have the weather?” Laughs from Kwasi and Ayesha could be heard off-camera as they watched Ed scramble to navigate the blunder, while Susanna had finally swallowed her sandwich.
She then quipped: “Normally, the director would save us with the weather, but he’s just going to stick with it!”
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
