More people have started to buy ‘preloved’ or second-hand clothes’ in recent years, especially bargain hunters, and one woman found a shop in Scotland selling clothes at very affordable pricesWoman looking at dress hanging on rack in clothes store (stock photo)A woman found a second-hand clothing shop in Scotland offering some big bargains (stock photo)(Image: Getty Images/Maskot)

Buying second-hand clothing has become popular for those wanting to save money and cut down on their expenses, or simply enjoy looking for bargains. Platforms like eBay, Vinted, Depop and Facebook Marketplace allow shoppers to buy used ‘preloved’ goods at discounted prices.

There are also physical stores that sell second-hand items and Becky Chorlton, from Manchester, travelled to Scotland where she found a store she considered a hidden gem. Speaking in a video on TikTok, she said: “I’ve discovered a clothes shop that’s cheaper than Vinted and every single day the prices get cheaper and cheaper.” Many people will head to Vinted when shopping for affordable clothing instead of going to a store in-person, as they might not know about any in their local area or nearby.

Becky, who is the founder of Becky’s Bazaar and is known on social media for her thrift shopping content, went to the Preloved Secret Garden in Dundee.

She added: “They clear out and restock the entire shop every Thursday, [when] everything is £8 per piece and the prices keep dropping until everything is just £3 on a Tuesday.”

The shop stocks clothes from a range of high street retailers, including Quiz, Zara and Urban Outfitters, and offers men’s and womenswear in a range of sizes.

Becky mentioned that there is also a “cool vintage section in the back.” During her visit to the store, she noticed a woman “buying bags and bags of stuff to resell on Vinted,” which she thinks is “so much better” than the clothes heading to landfill.

The bargain hunter noted that it’s “definitely worth checking out this shop” if you’re a reseller or you just want some “extra clothes for your wardrobe at a bargain price.”

Some people have managed to earn a second income just by selling their preloved clothes, shoes and accessories on Vinted and it has helped others to save money on these items as they are cheaper to buy on Vinted than directly from the original retailer.

Buying used goods from a second hand shop or on Vinted is part of thrift shopping but there are other options, such as charity shops, car boot sales, flea markets and vintage fairs and festivals.

Shopping at these venues often allows customers to find unique items that might not be available on the high street.

Becky’s TikTok video has garnered thousands of views and a number of comments. Viewers commented to ask where the shop is located, indicating that they hadn’t heard of it before, and some asked if there is anything similar in other places in the UK.

One TikTok user said: “This shop looks like a hidden gem! Would love to see more places like this around the UK. Great finds!”

Another added: “I need to visit this shop. It looks fantastic and definitely on a Tuesday.” Others described Preloved Secret Garden as “amazing” and “such a cool spot.”
