Three people have been arrested after a teenage girl was seriously injured in a Birmingham ‘hit-and-run’ crash.

The incident took place in Oldknow Road in Small Heath at 3pm on Wednesday (June 25).

A 17-year-old girl was hit by a car and left with serious leg injuries with the car involved leaving the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a crash on Oldknow Road in Small Heath at 3.01pm on Wednesday (June 25).

“We sent an ambulance, a HART (hazardous area response team) paramedic and a critical care paramedic to the scene.

“On arrival, crews found a car and a pedestrian had been involved in a collision.

“The pedestrian, a girl, was treated by ambulance staff for serious injuries before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”

Police investigating the incident tracked a car they thought was involved to the Sheldon area of the city on Wednesday evening.

Officers have now arrested three men, one aged 20 and two aged 30, while the vehicle involved was found and is set to be forensically examined.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We’ve made three arrests after a teenager was seriously injured in a collision in Birmingham.

“We were called to Oldknow Road in Small Heath at just after 3pm yesterday (25 June), to reports a 17-year-old girl had been hit by a car which left the scene.

“The girl was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries.

“Officers began an immediate investigation and tracked a car thought to have been involved, stopping it in the Sheldon area yesterday evening.

“Three men, two aged 30 and one aged 20, were arrested and the vehicle was recovered for forensic examination.

“The men are all currently in custody being questioned on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

“Our investigation is continuing and we are still appealing for anyone who saw what happened, or has any dashcam or CCTV footage, to call us on 101 quoting Log 3448 of 25 June.”
