Emmerdale fans were convinced they spotted a soap legend return from the dead on Thursday

Emmerdale fans were left speechless as they thought a soap legend returned from the dead after 29 years.

It’s been a busy week in the Dales, as Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) prepared for her cancer surgery, while Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) shared his worries for his father, Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards).

Meanwhile, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) has continued to sabotage his brother, Robert (Ryan Hawley), following his return to the village.

That’s not all, as Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was also left frustrated after learning that his expensive car had been vandalised on Tuesday (June 24).

He quickly pointed the finger at Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle), who has been vocal with his hatred for Joe after the villain had an affair with his wife, Dawn (Olivia Bromley).

After finding evidence of an intruder in his room, Joe went to the depot to confront Billy, who was having a conversation with his colleague Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton).

“Are you gonna stop playing games? Cause it’s not funny… I’m warning you now in front of a witness, next time I won’t be so understanding,” Joe said.

An angry Billy then replied: “Next time you come here and start threatening us, you’ll find yourself back in that wheelchair, only this time for good.”

“Maybe he’s due another accident,” Kerry added, with Billy concluding: “Yeah exactly. So, walk away, while you still can.”

During Thursday’s (June 26) hour-long episode, Joe enlisted his accomplice Shaun (James Boyland) to teach Billy a lesson.

Soap fans will remember that Joe previously got Shaun to stab Caleb Milligan (William Ash) outside the depot, as part of his plan to steal his uncle’s kidney.

“I just want Billy put in his place for good… I just want you to teach him a lesson. Whatever it takes, within reason. I want him to be scared, scared enough to know that he can’t do whatever he wants all the time,” Joe told Shaun tonight.

Later, Shaun brandished a knife as he watched Billy begin a run, but Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) soon arrived, and urged Billy to come into work as the depot was short-staffed.

Joe then found an anonymous note in his room, which read: “Don’t you think you can ever sleep easy. I’m watching you.”

However, Shaun later confirmed that Billy wouldn’t have been to blame as he had been at work all day.

After watching the tense scenes, several Emmerdale fans couldn’t help but notice Shaun’s resemblance to past character Dave Glover (Ian Kelsey).

Dave first arrived in the village back in 1994, and notably had an affair with Kim Tate (Claire King) before he married Kathy Bates (Malandra Burrows). Dave died from injuries sustained in a fire after saving Kim’s son, Jamie (Alexander Lincoln), in 1996.

“Was that bloke in Joe’s house Dave Glover because if not he looks like him,” one person wrote on a Facebook fan page.

Another added: “I thought that too – Dave Glover even though he died years ago!!!” while a third said: “He looks just like him!”

A fourth viewer echoed the sentiment, saying: “I thought that too, the resemblance is uncanny! Would be amazing to have Dave come back from the dead.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and is available to stream from 7am on ITVX
