An investigation has been launched after a five-year-old child took a knife into their school.
The incident took place at Bridge Farm Primary School in Whitchurch, this morning (Friday, June 27).
An email from the school, written by the Headteacher Joy Mounter, said the incident involved a child in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
The email said: “Dear Parents and Carers, I am writing to inform you of a serious incident that occurred today involving a child in our EYFS.
“We are aware that a child brought a knife into school.
“When discovered, the item was immediately handed to a member of staff, and I want to reassure you that no other children witnessed the knife and no staff members were harmed.
“We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident thoroughly and with the utmost seriousness.
“The safety and wellbeing of all our pupils and staff remain our highest priority, and we are taking appropriate steps to ensure this situation is addressed in line with our safeguarding policies.
“We understand that this news may be concerning and want to reassure you that these matters are taken very seriously.”
Bridge Farm Primary School later told Bristol Live that it was a five-year-old child that brought the knife into school and that action is being taken.
A spokesperson from Bridge Farm Primary School said: “A five-year-old child brought a knife into school this morning and handed it in to a member of staff.
“No children witnessed this event.
“The school are now taking appropriate action and following procedures.”
The incident comes over a month after a knife was found in a pupil’s bag at The Park Primary School in Kingswood.
No child or adult was harmed during that incident.
