The build up to Sunday’s Irish Derby continues at the Curragh on Saturday with day two of the three-day meeting, with the penultimate day’s card featuring the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes.

The card kicks off at 1.15pm with a 13-runner maiden contest for the two-year-olds, the Pretty Polly is off at 3.30pm, and the card comes to an end at 5.15pm with another maiden.

Read below for a full preview of the Curragh card on Saturday courtesy of BoyleSports, who will have the latest Galway Festival odds at the showpiece meeting next month.

Up first is a two-year-old maiden race over the seven furlong trip (1.15). A race previously won by Epsom Derby winner City Of Troy and often very informative going forward, trainer Aidan O’Brien sends €400,000 Wootton Bassett colt Dorset for this one, second of ten over course and distance on debut 24 days ago where he was beaten by highly-fancied stablemate Amadeus Mozart and should go one better this time – plus is the mount of top jockey Ryan Moore.

The Group 2 Airlie Stud Stakes is up next at 1.45 and a field of six will battle it out for the €72,000 top prize. Lady Iman made it three wins from three for the Ger Lyons yard last time out and is tough to oppose here, looking likely an improver still. O’Brien has the chief threat with Beautify, quickly thrown into a Group 2 off the back of a good third over course and distance on debut just five weeks ago.

The Group 3 Anglesey Stakes marks the third race of the Curragh card (2.20) with the two-year-old’s taking centre stage. Flushing Meadows was a ready winner when landing a maiden on debut at this track earlier this month and is hard to go against here for the O’Brien and Moore combo in this six furlong contest. Lyons can fill the second spot with Suzie Songs, also a first time out winner when scoring in a Cork maiden just over a fortnight ago and her yard won this race last year with the top-class filly Babouche.

Another Group 3 is up next at 2.55 with the Dubai International Stakes and it can go the way of another O’Brien, this time trainer Joseph, with Trustyourinstinct who was a a winner of a Listed contest at this track on May 24 on his last spin and was a G3 winner last season so is bang in-form to grab another.

The big race of the afternoon is race four on the card at 3.30 with the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes and a top prize of €180,000 heading the way of the winner. It’s another top-notch renewal of this fillies and mares race over the mile and a quarter trip and following a very eye-catching win in the Musidora at York, Aidan O’Brien’s Whirl could be the way to go despite losing next time out to stablemate Minnie Hawk but that form sets the standard here. British raider Kalpana is bang in form for the Andrew Balding yard and rates the next best, a previous G1 winner at Ascot in October and third behind Los Angeles in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at this course last time out.

The card winds down a bit after the Pretty Polly, with race six (4.05) a mile and a quarter handicap that can go the way of Bear Profit for trainer Gerard O’Leary off the back of a fine win in a Leopardstown handicap just over three weeks ago, while race seven (4.40) sees Never Shout Never get the nod for the Stephen Thorne yard, who should get his head in front belatedly after a series of solid runs that included a second at Listowel last time around.

Finally, the Saturday card at the Curragh comes to a close at 5.15 with a maiden contest over the six furlong trip and of the big field of 18 set to tackle it, preference heads the way of Colter Bay, who can takes step forward here off the back of a better than the bare result fifth on debut at this course 24 days ago.
