Manchester City’s transfer activity is set to hand Sheffield Wednesday instant financial respite amid Dejphon Chansiri’s failing ownership.

Some Owls players are still awaiting payment after Chansiri failed to fulfill May’s wage bill, leaving the Championship club in a period of great uncertainty.

The Hillsborough side received their second-tier fixture list on Thursday, 26 June, but preparations for next season are the least of the South Yorkshire club’s worries at the moment.

Amid his strained relationship with Chansiri, boss Danny Rohl is set to leave Sheffield Wednesday, and current assistant Henrik Pedersen is among the candidates to replace the German.

While Wednesday are struggling financially, Premier League giants Manchester City have agreed to sign Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri.

The teenager is yet to make a senior appearance for the Owls, but is a talented youngster who has represented both England and Scotland at youth international level.

The Owls’ perilous financial situation is showing no signs of easing anytime soon, while Sheffield Wednesday players can leave the club on a free transfer, subject to a 15-day notice period if Chansiri fails to pay June’s wages on time.

Wednesday have been given next season’s Championship fixtures

Meanwhile, non-football staff at Hillsborough have been handed an advanced warning that the timing of their June payments is currently uncertain, as per the Sheffield Star [27 June].

If the same fate happens to Rohl’s players, many will likely tear up their contracts and move to a new club in search of financial stability ahead of next season.

The likes of Barry Bannan and Callum Paterson are out of contract this summer, while the exit of such senior players would come as a major blow for the Hillsborough outfit.

Whether Sheffield Wednesday replace Rohl with Pedersen, or source an external candidate, the German’s successor faces a huge challenge on their hands, as they will be managing a largely disgruntled squad.
