The Strangers – Chapter 2, the horror film starring Gabriel Basso and Madelaine Petsch, has released its disturbing first trailer.
The upcoming film, a sequel to 2024’s The Strangers: Chapter 1, continues the story of Maya Lucas (Petsch), who escaped with her life from a group of murderous masked strangers. With “nowhere left to run”, Maya is once again caught in a fight for survival.
Co-starring Ema Horvath and The Night Agent‘s Basso, the “chilling” film has unveiled its first trailer ahead of its theatrical release in September, with the spooky clip beginning as the events of the first film are recalled.
From there, Maya gets a shock as she seemingly begins her recovery in hospital, with an axe-wielding figure chasing her. Basso’s Gregory also comes into contact with the central character, explaining that the Strangers have been operating “for years”.
“The Strangers are back – more brutal and relentless than ever,” reads the logline for the film. “When they learn that one of their victims, Maya, is still alive, they return to finish what they’ve started.

“With nowhere to run and no one to trust, Maya must survive another horrific chapter of terror as The Strangers – driven by a senseless, unceasing purpose – pursue her, more than willing to kill anyone who stands in their way.”
The Strangers – Chapter 2 has the same creative team as its predecessor, with Alan R Cohen and Alan Freedland returning to pen the screenplay while Renny Harlin is back in the director’s chair.

The trio, along with Petsch, are due to return in their respective roles for the planned third and final entry in the trilogy, which is slated to hit the big screen next year. The latest films serve as a reboot of the horror series, which previously released films in 2008 and 2018.
Petsch, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, previously told Digital Spy that the events of the trilogy would take place over the course of five days, with the actor saying she treated the three entries as “one long film”.
The Strangers – Chapter 2 is due to be released in cinemas on 26 September.
