Sheffield United could lose Vini Souza this summer after the most recent update regarding his future – something must change at the club as a result.

Sheffield United decided to switch up their approach ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season, which saw Ruben Selles replace Chris Wilder at Bramall Lane.

It will be a huge challenge for the former Hull City boss, who has big shoes to fill by following up Wilder. On top of that, he will ultimately be the face of the change of direction by the Sheffield United board, which has led to some left-field signings being made.

To kick off the summer window, Sheffield United brought in Ehije Ukaki from Botev Plovdiv, whilst Septemvri Sofia defender Mihail Polendakov is also linked to the Blades.

However, the most recent update regarding Sheffield United star Vini Souza will hopefully kick-start the Blades board to change one key aspect of their transfer approach.

As reported by credible journalist Vene Casagrande, Sheffield United could lose Vini Souza to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

The Blades will reportedly receive over £12million for the Brazilian midfielder, who impressed heavily under Chris Wilder in the 2024/25 Championship season.

With the likelihood that Ruben Selles will lose a key and integral player from his side’s spine, the Sheffield United board will need to change up their approach of signing players strictly for the future, and instead plug the gaps with proven Championship talent.

There will likely be an expectation on Selles to get Sheffield United promoted, or at the very least, have them in the higher echelons of the Championship table next season, but that ambition needs to be met with regard to recruitment, with a midfielder surely of the utmost importance for the Blades at this moment.

The Blades will struggle to replace Vini Souza

Sheffield United will need to look towards replacing Souza as effectively as possible. Without their Brazilian midfielder, it will be a challenge for Selles to live up to expectations.

The issue for the Blades is that options will be rather limited with regard to options, especially those who could replicate Souza’s talents.

The way that Souza performed throughout the 2024/25 season, an eight-figure outlay will be needed to replace him properly; otherwise, Sheffield United will struggle in the upcoming campaign.
