Leeds United are reeling from the disappointment of failing to sign Strasbourg captain Habib Diarra, and the double knock that sees a direct Premier League rival strike a deal to land him.

Sunderland have completed a £35m move to land Diarra, with Leeds refusing to pay over the odds for the Senegal international. Leeds made two offers for Diarra, the second of which only reached £23.9m.

Leeds do not seem close to making any signings as things stand, but they continue to be linked with new additions on a regular basis. On Sunday, there were three new players to be linked with The Whites:

Lyon have been relegated to Ligue 2 by the DNGC, France’s Football Finance Committee. That is despite the sale of John Textor’s Crystal Palace shares, with Textor in majority control of the French giants.

It is expected they will now host a fire sale of players and reports say Leeds have made Brazilian stopper Lucas Perri a ‘priority’. However, Leeds face competition from newly-promoted Saudi Arabian side Neom.

Leeds may have signed Jaka Bijol at centre-back, but the need for another remains. That is because Max Wober has been told he can leave, while Pascal Struijk could be sold if the club need a PSR boost.

Well, if Leeds do opt to sign another centre-back, then Brighton’s Brazilian defender Igor is said to be a target. Wolves and Crystal Palace are also interested, but Spanish side Real Sociedad are winning the race.

Willy Gnonto played a key role as Leeds got promoted and won the Championship title, but endured a dismal Euro U21 campaign and was sent off as Germany knocked Italy out of the competition.

The same for Mattia Zanotti. A brilliant season, followed by a red card against Germany for the 21’s. That hasn’t put Leeds off, who want Lugano’s £10m-rated Zanotti – now a teammate of Gjanni Alioski.
