As they’ve done for the past couple weeks, WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and the man who will challenge him for his title at WrestleMania 41, John Cena, met in the middle of the ring. They would, perhaps, finally discuss their issues.

Or maybe Cena would explain why he turned against Rhodes?

Well, he did.

Like a cartoon villain straight out of a Disney movie, at least in terms of performance, Cena ran Rhodes down as an errand boy who got lucky, someone who used cheap gimmicks to convince fans he’s worth the time of day, who has always lived in his shadow and doesn’t deserve his place at the top of the company.

Once you strip it all away, Cody is just a carefully crafted image and we don’t ever get to see the real man, who is just a fan.

Naturally, Rhodes fired back that John Cena, of all people, cannot claim anything about a carefully crafted image considering maybe he’s just the guy because of a certain other guy who used to run the show and no one is allowed to talk about anymore.

Ouch.

Then, finally, Rhodes made mention that Cena sold out to The Rock and he did not. That’s the difference between them.

“John, you are still my hero. But you’re also a piece of shit.”

Damn.

Cena claimed he was never once protected from anyone taking their best shot at him, and no one was ever worthy of knocking him off his pedestal. That’s why he’s never left. No matter the garbage they gave him, he found a way to make it great. Cody, meanwhile, had to leave.

“Because you realized at your best you can’t wipe my ass.”

Sheesh.

“I make empires for billionaires. All you’ve ever done is steal money from their kids.”

Hot damn!

When Cena tried to leave, Rhodes hit him where it hurts — that they’ve never once chanted at him “you can’t wrestle.”

Cena squared up, faked like it was a deke, tried a sneak, and the champ put him down with the Cross Rhodes.

They finally mentioned The Rock, finally got physical, and threw some absolute bombs at each other verbally. I’m not sure they did well with the story itself but as a self contained segment this was fantastic.
