Mohammed Kudus believes Liverpool are ‘the best team’ in England after catching the eye of Arne Slot. The Hammers were beaten 2-1 by the Reds at Anfield on Sunday, to move one step closer to the Premier League title.

Liverpool had initially taken the lead in the first-half when Luis Diaz finished Mohamed Salah’s cross after just 18 minutes. But Graham Potter’s side restored parity four minutes from time when Andy Robertson turned the ball into his own net.

However, a couple of minutes later, Virgil van Dijk broke West Ham hearts when he headed home Alexis Mac Allister’s corner. But despite admitting that the defeat was a tough one to take, Kudus was proud of how far his side pushed the Reds.

He said: “I’m very proud of the team and everyone because we gave it our all. We knew playing at Anfield against the best team in the league was going to be a tough challenge, but I think everyone stood up against it for the whole game.

“It’s just the last part, the last piece of concentration in the game, and we lost it from a set-piece.

“It was tough to take, but I think everyone was on top form today, and I’m proud of the team. We can take this as a positive and get ready for the next game.

“We created a lot [in the second half]. You could see that in the second half we started to play more, and we started creating more chances. It’s just about having the confidence to play in difficult stadiums like this.

“I felt that we were in control in the second half in some parts of the game, and we kept going and started creating a lot of chances. Unfortunately, they didn’t go in like we wanted to, but it’s part of the game. It happens sometimes.

“There were some good saves from their goalkeeper (Alisson) as well. We could have got a point, but there are a lot of positives. We can take this and focus on the next game.”

Liverpool were first linked with a move for Kudus back in the summer of 2022 when he played for Ajax. The Reds were then linked again last summer after the Ghana international impressed in his first season in the Premier League.

More links then emerged earlier this week when Slot said the 24-year-old and his team-mate Lucas Paqueta were ‘outstanding’ against his side and claimed they could have easily lined up for the Reds on Sunday afternoon.

“They also have players and that’s what makes the Premier League so strong this season,” the Dutchman said.

“I think they’re 16th or 17th in the league, but I can name you one or two players that could easily have played with us today as well in terms of quality.

“That is what the Premier League is about. And they used them more and more in the second half, these two quality players.

“And they have more, but I think Paqueta and Kudus were outstanding today, especially second half.”
