Comcast has announced that it has reached a “major infrastructure milestone” as the company has finished a fiber network expansion in Las Cruces.

Comcast claims that it can now deliver high-speed internet and ethernet that can reach speeds of 100 gigabits per second — roughly 1,000 times faster than the average home internet speed.

The new fiber network can be installed in local businesses, schools and hospitals. Comcast said that the move was designed to help businesses work more efficiently.

Kyle Biederwolf, external affairs manager for Comcast, told the Bulletin that Comcast is seeing “really strong business growth and innovation in Las Cruces.”

“We as a company really wanted to support that momentum,” he said.

Biederwolf said that this is “is just one piece of the various investments we are making across the state.” He said that they are expanding their coverage in multiple spots across the state.
