A teaching assistant with a depraved secret, “Harry Pothead” and a thug who launched an ashtray at a woman’s head after a Christening were among the criminals from across Merseyside who were jailed this month. Also locked up was a mum stole nearly half a million pounds from her employer due to her “TikTok addiction”.

Meanwhile, Liverpool Crown Court heard that a fight between two dads over a kids’ football league escalated into one slashing the other with a Stanley knife outside a leisure centre. Here are the faces of 38 defendants from our region who were imprisoned during June:

James MorrisJames MorrisJames Morris(Image: Merseyside Police)

A thug forced a man to strip half naked in the street while accusing him of being a “nonce”. James Morris “tried to take the law into his own hands” but ended up in prison himself.

The dad sought to “humiliate and shame” his victim, who had apparently been ensnared in a paedophile hunter sting, during a “vigilante” attack. He thereafter seized upon the opportunity to steal an “irreplaceable” necklace from the complainant, an item which had been given to him by his late nan.

Morris was found guilty of robbery following a trial, although a jury cleared him of being in possession of a knife during the assault. Appearing in the dock wearing a grey prison issue jumper and sporting short dark hair, he was jailed for three years and handed a 10-year restraining order.

Michael HollywoodMichael HollywoodMichael Hollywood(Image: Merseyside Police)

A paedophile was left in tears as one of his victims told him “you’re not a monster, you’re a coward”. Michael Hollywood recorded himself sexually assaulting a teenage girl while secretly committing an array of vile crimes over the course of more than decade.

His shame was only exposed when a family member found a horrifying catalogue of indecent images on his laptop as he frantically sought to regain possession of the device when the police were closing in on his offending. This also led to the discovery of a series of pictures and videos of a woman who he surreptitiously filmed in a state of undress.

Hollywood admitted sexual assault, assault by penetration, three counts of taking indecent images of a child, voyeurism, three counts of making indecent images and possession of indecent images. Wearing a grey prison issue jumper and sporting a shaved head and a beard, he showed no reaction as he was jailed for nine years.

Christopher FisherChristopher FisherChristopher Fisher(Image: Merseyside Police)

A thug stole an Uber Eats rider’s chips but quickly regretted it. Christopher Fisher was struck in the head with an improvised weapon as his victim fought back when the takeaway was swiped from his delivery bag.

But the thief then knocked the worker to the ground and punched and stamped on him before hurling the food back at him in a “final act of contempt”. He told a judge, “sorry about this, sir,” as he was locked up over the “unpleasant, unnecessary, and completely unacceptable” episode.

Fisher admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and theft, with the prosecution having not proceeded with an initial charge of robbery. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool, he was imprisoned for three years.

Veke Koissia SoumahoroVeke Koissia Soumahoro has been jailed for more than seven years after he was found in possession of Greater Manchester Police's first 'ghost gun' and a 'significant' amount of crack cocaine and heroin.Veke Koissia Soumahoro(Image: Greater Manchester Police)

A drug dealer who was found in possession of a rare, untraceable “ghost gun” was a major player in a £180,000 county lines operation known as “Scouse Paul”. Veke Koissia Soumahoro was part of a plot to flood the streets with heroin and crack cocaine.

Police found a “significant amount” of the class A drugs, valued at around £28,500, when they raided the 25-year-old’s home in November 2024. They also uncovered a Polymer80 “ghost gun” that had been assembled from a kit containing parts with no serial numbers.r.

Soumahoro pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate, being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine and possession of heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply heroin. He was sentenced to seven years and six months behind bars.

Trevor Jevons and Martin PilsonTrevor JevonsTrevor Jevons(Image: Merseyside Police)

A drug dealer attempted to shove hundreds of pounds of heroin and cocaine up his bum when the police came knocking at his door. Trevor Jevons and his flatmate Martin Pilson operated a “significant scale” drugs hotline, which was so busy that they began fulfilling orders on behalf of other criminals.

Despite being arrested and having had both drugs and cash seized from them, the two men continued with “business as usual” and resumed their activities “almost immediately after getting out of the police station”. The former apologised to a judge for his actions as he was locked up.

Martin PilsonMartin Pilson(Image: Merseyside Police)

Jevons, who appeared in court via video link to HMP Altcourse, admitted possession of heroin and cocaine with intent to supply, two counts of being concerned in the supply of heroin and two of being concerned in the supply of cocaine. Pilson, appearing remotely from HMP Liverpool, pleaded guilty to two charges of being concerned in the supply of heroin and two of being concerned in the supply of cocaine.

Both were jailed for 45 months and handed five-year criminal behaviour orders. Jevons, who seemed to be visibly shaking as he learned his fate, replied: “I’m sorry about this anyway. Thank you.”

Kalem RileyKalem RileyKalem Riley(Image: Merseyside Police)

A judge posed a poignant question to a teenager as he was locked up over his activities on Instagram. Kalem Riley used his account on the social media platform in order to advertise cocaine, ketamine and hallucinogenic 2CB for sale to his followers.

Others sitting above him in the criminal hierarchy were said to have “leant upon” him to post such messages in return for free drugs, the 18-year-old having been abusing substances since the age of 13. He was told that he had “let his parents down”, but was asked a question which he was “invited to think about in custody”.

Riley admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine, 2CB and ketamine. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a black long sleeved Hugo Boss top, he handed 27 months in a young offenders’ institute.

Sentencing, Judge David Swinnerton said: “You are at an age where you have to make a choice. Are you going to run with drug dealers and go in and out of prison, or are you going to change your life? I invite you to think about that for the next few months as you sit in custody.”

Toni CaseyToni CaseyToni Casey(Image: Cheshire Police)

A woman who took over a pensioner’s home to use as a base for dealing heroin and crack cocaine nearly got away with her crimes after giving false details to the police. Toni Casey gave an innocent party’s name, address and date of birth to officers when she was caught red handed with hundreds of pounds of class A drugs.

Having released her on bail, it took PCs nearly a month to realise that they had been hoodwinked. She then confessed to her “selfish behaviour” and claimed she had lied as she “didn’t want to go back to prison”.

Casey admitted possession of heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply and perverting the course of justice. Appearing via video link to HMP Drake Hall, she was jailed for four years and 10 months.

Katherine GreenallKatherine GreenallKatherine Greenall(Image: Merseyside Police)

A mum’s “addiction to TikTok” left her in tears as she was sent to prison. Katherine Greenall stole nearly half a million pounds from her employer while working as accounts manager for the car company.

The single mother to two young children went on to spend the vast majority of this sum on TikTok tokens, which were gifted to content creators on the social media platform for her own “amusement and entertainment”. She also treated herself to holidays, hotel stays and purchases from Amazon during her more than year-long “voyage of fraud and misadventure”, but was ultimately left behind bars with only a few hundred pounds left in her bank account.

Greenall admitted one count of fraud by abuse of position. Appearing in the dock wearing a black coat with a pair of glasses perched on top of her head, she wiped her tears away with a tissue as she was jailed for 28 months.

She appeared to make a remark towards the public gallery as she was led to the cells, although this comment was inaudible due to her emotional state. One of her supporters meanwhile blew kisses towards Greenall and told her: “I love you.”

James KellyJames KellyJames Kelly(Image: Merseyside Police)

A falling out between two dads over a kids’ football league escalated into one slashing the other with a Stanley knife during a “straightener” outside a leisure centre. James Kelly asked the fellow parent for a “f***ing word” during a training session before “lunging at him” with the weapon, apparently leaving him permanently scarred.

The father-of-two, a full-time carer to his disabled son, had never found himself in trouble with the law previously, but a “few seconds of madness” left him shaking his head as was sent to prison. His own defence counsel labelled the ill-fated episode “utterly baffling”.

Kelly admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of a bladed article in a public place on the day he was due to stand trial. Appearing in the dock wearing a black suit over a white shirt and grey tie, he shook his head and puffed out his cheeks as he was jailed for 10 months and handed a five-year restraining order.

A thug smashed a bottle of Desperados over a disabled man’s head before repeatedly jabbing the broken glass into his face and neck. Kabairathan Santhurukanthan left his victim permanently scarred after subjecting him to a sickening assault, having been confronted over his vile racist abuse of a shopkeeper.

He had only been released from prison earlier the same day and claims to have carried out the vicious attack as he wanted to be returned to jail. Having abandoned his original plan to travel to Liverpool John Lennon Airport in order to enact his plan, he instead confessed he would have killed the other man had he not been stopped by members of the public.

Santhurukanthan pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, assaulting an emergency services worker and racially aggravated harassment. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool, he was jailed for six years and nine months and handed an additional five years on licence.

Samantha BennettSamantha BennettSamantha Bennett(Image: Facebook)

A mum-of-seven was left in tears as she was jailed for sexually abusing a teenage girl. Samantha Bennett “brainwashed” her victim into believing they were in a “normal relationship” by “showering her with gifts”, including an iPad and a puppy.

This campaign of “exploitation” saw her “childhood and innocence” stolen by the married mum to a six-month-old baby, who continues to maintain her innocence. However, she was told that she had forced the teen to “do things no child should ever have to do” as she faced the “absolute disaster” of years behind bars.

Bennett, who used two walking sticks as a mobility aid in court, was found guilty of a total of six sexual offences, including sexual activity with a child, by jurors. Appearing in the dock wearing a red cardigan over a black top and with her dark hair tied back in a ponytail, she was locked up for five-and-a-half years.

Anthony McDonaldAnthony McDonaldAnthony McDonald(Image: Merseyside Police)

A serial burglar was branded a “complete menace who simply doesn’t stop” as he was locked up again. Anthony McDonald helped himself to cash, laptops, alcohol and a staff tip jar during a string of break-ins at bars, restaurants and hotels in Liverpool city centre.

The career criminal has now committed more than 30 such crimes in order to fund his class A drug habit, having been addicted to heroin and crack cocaine since the age of 15. A judge told him that he had “earned” his longest prison sentence to date and told him: “You simply do not stop, and nothing seems to be working.”

McDonald admitted seven counts of burglary, possession of cannabis and failing to provide a sample for a class A drug test following his arrest. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a turquoise Columbia t-shirt, he was jailed for 40 months.

Aaron KerrAaron KerrAaron Kerr(Image: Merseyside Police)

A judge told a dad “it’s unfortunate that we meet again” after he launched an ashtray at a woman’s head in the pub following a Christening. Aaron Kerr was previously allowed to walk free from Liverpool Crown Court despite chasing a man out of a bar while brandishing a knife.

But he then blew this second chance by setting off fire extinguishers and threatening police officers with a pair of scissors during a further episode of drunken violence in a pub. To compound matters even further, the self-described “psychopath” went on to leave yet another innocent victim with a bloody wound following a prank gone wrong after another drinking session.

Kerr admitted two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray, assault, possession of a bladed article in a public place and breaching a community order. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a navy blue Moose Knuckles jumper, he was jailed for two years.

William AliWilliam AliWilliam Ali(Image: Merseyside Police)

A convicted robber said he hid a 12-inch weapon down his trousers because there was a “price on his head”. William Ali claimed to have been in danger as he had been “robbing drug dealers” in an apparent bid to “clean up the streets”.

The young thug went on to tell police “suck your mum” and laughed as he joked about carrying out stabbings, having been caught carrying the kitchen knife in Liverpool city centre late on a Friday night. He made gun signs and shook his head but told a judge “everything’s true, I won’t carry a knife again” as he was put back behind bars.

Ali admitted one count of possession of a bladed article in a public place. Wearing a pink Under Armour tracksuit, he gave a thumbs up and replied “thank you” after being jailed for nine months.

Kenneth McNabbKenneth McNabbKenneth McNabb(Image: Facebook)

A pensioner has been sent back to prison after his “secret” was exposed 30 years on. Kenneth McNabb, who has now been convicted of sexually assaulting three different children and repeatedly caught with vile collections of child abuse images, is said to be “angered” by measures designed to stop him from reoffending, which he views as an “infringement on his freedom”.

One of his victims detailed how the paedophile “put him through hell and didn’t have the balls to admit what he did”. A judge meanwhile told the army veteran that he was “not impressed” by his wearing of not one but two poppies on his coat, suspecting him of attempting to curry favour, and stated that his claimed wish to change “rang hollow” due to him spurning “opportunity after opportunity” to do so.

McNabb appeared in the dock with two enamel poppy badges attached to his long black trench coat, worn over a shirt and tie. Judge David Swinnerton said of this: “I am tempted to ask why the defendant is wearing poppies on his jacket. It does not impress, if that is what it is meant to do. He is entitled to.”

Walking with the aid of a stick in court, McNabb admitted two counts of indecent assault, possession of indecent images of children, three counts of making indecent images, possession of prohibited images of a child, possession of an extreme pornographic image and breaching a sexual offences prevention order. He was jailed for six-and-a-half years, and remains subject to lifelong notification requirements.

Callum Lydiate viciously assaulted his new partner within a matter of months of meeting her via the social media platform, repeatedly punching and kicking her before pulling out clumps of her hair.

The thug has now been convicted of violent offences against three women with whom he has been in relationships. A judge told him that he had a “worrying side to his personality” and urged him to “do better”, adding: “Only you can make that choice.”

Lydiate admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a sky blue Montirex tracksuit top, he was jailed for 18 months and handed a five-year restraining order.

Liam GreenwoodLiam GreenwoodLiam Greenwood(Image: Merseyside Police)

A drunken thug flew into a rage and choked his ex-girlfriend until she passed out after being told to clean up the mess he had made. Liam Greenwood had only recently been released from a lengthy spell in prison at the time he carried out the brutal assault in front of his own daughter.

It came after he rapidly “went from calm to raging” when asked to pick up food which he had dropped after attending her home late at night. He went on to viciously kick his defenceless victim as she lay unconscious on the floor, leaving the lives of her and her child “turned upside down”.

Greenwood admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation and criminal damage. Appearing in the dock wearing a grey Berghaus body warmer over a grey t-shirt, he was jailed for 22 months and handed a 10-year restraining order.

Lee Roach crashed his bike into the pensioner as he “tried to save his own skin” while being chased through the streets of Liverpool city centre by the victim of the theft.

The OAP suffered a permanent facial scar and a broken arm as a result of the ill-fated episode, which came only months after he had set fire to his bedroom while facing eviction. The 50-year-old now says it is “time to grow up”.

Having been quickly rumbled by the police, he then confessed to his attempts to cover his tracks as he “thought he could get away with it”. Back in jail, he now “understands that he needs to try to stop getting into trouble”.

Bushell admitted one count of breaching a sexual harm prevention order. Appearing via video link to HMP Risley wearing a grey t-shirt two days after his birthday, he was jailed for a further eight months.

Rachel WilsonRachel WilsonRachel Wilson(Image: Merseyside Police)

A mum stole more £200,000 from the solicitors firm where she worked as she “felt she had no choice”. Rachel Wilson took the “terrible decision” to swindle the huge sum from her employer in order to fund her husband’s drug habit.

This four-year campaign of deceit was only discovered by her understudy when she went away on holiday. She wept and told family members “I’m sorry, I’m sorry” as she was locked up.

Wilson admitted one count of fraud by abuse of position. Appearing in the dock wearing a hooded black top over a floral dress and sporting a pair of glasses and long blonde hair, she wiped away tears with a tissue as she was jailed for two years and two months.

Michael Kelly

A paedophile forced a girl to strip naked during perverted games of hide and seek as he raped and sexually abused four children. Michael Kelly told his victims that they could play on his phone if they complied with his sick desires and issued them with threats in order to keep them silent.

In doing so, the armed forces veteran “stole their childhoods” and left them suffering from “nightmares of what he did”. A judge told him: “It is no exaggeration to say that your offending has ruined lives.”

Kelly was found guilty of a total of 24 sexual offences, including rape, attempted rape and sexual assault, following a trial. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a grey prison issue jumper, he was seen with his head placed on the desk in front of him at times during the hearing before being jailed for 21 years and handed an additional year on licence.

A grandad has been locked up for nearly 15 years following his arrest in Spain. Richard Mellor “knew his time was up and tried to hide” on the continent after being identified as the user of the EncroChat handle “Wonky Kite”.

Meticulous ledgers which the drug deal “broker” had kept stored on his device laid bare to detectives his involvement in the supply of millions of pounds of heroin and cocaine via the encrypted communications platform. The dad-of-three and volunteer football and boxing coach admitted conspiracy to supply heroin and cocaine and was jailed for a total of 14 years and 18 months.

Keiron PickettKeiron PickettKeiron Pickett(Image: Merseyside Police)

A teaching assistant was reported to the police by Instagram due to depraved activity on his “Sniff Smoke 0151” account. Keiron Pickett wailed “f***, no, no, no” in panic when officers came knocking at his door.

It was only then that detectives discovered he had surreptitiously been filming vile videos up the skirts of pupils at the school where he worked. He was left in tears as he was locked up, having also been found to have penned a series of disturbing “fantasies” concerning his young students.

Pickett admitted operating equipment under clothing without consent, taking indecent images of children, five counts of making indecent images and possession of cannabis. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a grey Under Armour t-shirt, he was seen wiping tears away before nodding as he was jailed for 20 months.

David CrokeDavid CrokeDavid Croke(Image: Merseyside Police)

A robber begged to be set free after being trapped inside a convenience store by his victim but was instead locked in a toilet until police arrived. David Croke told a shop assistant that he was armed with a knife, a claim which he quickly backtracked on when the worker lowered the external shutters in order to prevent him from leaving.

Desperately seeking an alternative escape route, he then made his way into the staff bathroom. And the quick thinking employee seized upon this opportunity by closing the door behind him and locking him inside the WC.

Croke admitted one count of robbery. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a grey prison issue jumper, he was jailed for 25 months.

Lee HoughtonLee HoughtonLee Houghton(Image: Merseyside Police)

A thug stripped naked and called his own solicitor a “slag” after being arrested. Lee Houghton found himself in custody having attempted to snatch a pensioner’s medication as she collected her prescription from the Royal Liverpool Hospital.

The mum initially believed that she had been woken by her husband returning home from work in the early hours, but instead cried “what the f***” and was left with her “heart pounding” after being greeted by the site of the complete stranger “glaring” at her. She implored a judge to “throw away the key” over the “petrifying” incident.

Thompson admitted five counts of burglary and asked for a further two offences of burglary, occurring on Buttermere Gardens on November 4 and Desmond Grove on November 5, to be taken into consideration in sentencing. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a blue Berghaus t-shirt, he was jailed for three years and four months.

Michael Flanagan ploughed his vehicle into a tree while travelling at around double the speed limit following his disturbing reaction to the end of their short-term relationship.

The incident came only a day after he had crept into his estranged girlfriend’s home armed with a knife and threatened “I was going to stab yous”, having been under the “paranoid” belief that she was seeing another man. While he “intended to cause really serious injury” to his passenger during the subsequent collision, she miraculously escaped from the chilling smash relatively unscathed.

Flanagan admitted attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving and making threats with a bladed article in a private place. Appearing in the dock wearing a black suit over a white shirt and blue tie, he was jailed for four years.

Lewis TuckerLewis TuckerLewis Tucker(Image: Merseyside Police)

While she was “just starting to get her life back on track” seven years on from the explosion which killed 22 innocent people during an Ariana Grande concert, she is now “at rock bottom” once again following the “worrying and terrifying” assault. She has meanwhile branded her attacker a “danger to society”.

John SarawanskyjJohn Sarawanskyj was unanimously found guilty of murdering his dad Ivan at their home on Braemar Avenue in SouthportJohn Sarawanskyj was unanimously found guilty of murdering his dad Ivan at their home on Braemar Avenue in Southport(Image: Merseyside Police)

A man has been jailed for life for murdering his 73-year-old dad. John Sarawanskyj left his dad Ivan with dozens of injuries during a “deliberate and sustained attack” at their home on Braemar Avenue in Southport in December of last year.

The son later visited a neighbour’s house and confessed that he had “jumped all over his father’s head”, going on to tell paramedics who attended the scene: “I’m not bothered he’s dead. He wasn’t a nice man.”

This assault came amid ongoing arguments concerning money and John Sarawanskyj’s dog Zeus, whose death around three months previously had left the 52-year-old “deeply upset”. This also apparently sparked a “desire for revenge” in him after he accused his dad of plotting with vets to poison the American bulldog.

Having previously maintained that he was not present at the time of his dad’s death and suggested that a third party may have killed his father, or that he had suffered his “extensive injuries” during a fall, Sarawanskyj claimed during a two-week trial that he had acted in self-defence during the course of a physical confrontation. However, his account was unanimously rejected by a jury and he was convicted of murder.

Sarawanskyj returned to the same court in order to be sentenced on Monday. Wearing a grey and red Under Armour tracksuit in the dock, he showed no reaction as he was handed a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years behind bars.

Barbara PetersBarbara PetersBarbara Peters(Image: Merseyside Police)

A prison officer kept alcohol, tobacco and mobile phones hidden inside her bra while smuggling contraband into the jail where she worked. Barbara Peters was paid thousands of pounds by “serious criminals” in order to sneak illicit items into HMP Altcourse on more than a dozen occasions.

The nan was also said to have been threatened and blackmailed by inmates before being ensnared as a result of a covert surveillance operation. A judge told the widower that it was “with some sorrow and regret” that he was required to lock her up due to the seriousness and extent of her criminal conduct.

Peters, who has no previous convictions, admitted one count of conspiracy to convey a prohibited list B article into a prison. Appearing in the dock wearing a pink t-shirt and glasses, she nodded as she was jailed for 10 months.

Daniel WilliamsDaniel WilliamsDaniel Williams(Image: Merseyside Police)

A prisoner left his cellmate with his skin “melting” after throwing a kettle of boiling sugar water over him as he slept. Daniel Williams bragged “I’ve done him” to fellow inmates at Walton prison after leaving his victim permanently scarred in a vicious, unprovoked attack.

The shocking assault followed a dispute between the two men over their milk rations and what they were watching on the television. The thug went on to falsely claim that the other prisoner, who was left with burns across nine per cent of his body as a result of the incident, had in fact “swilled himself” during an altercation.

Williams admitted one count of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a grey Castore t-shirt, he nodded as he was jailed for five years and four months.
