Birmingham City’s transfer window should finally shift into gear now that we’ve reached JulyChris Davies, manager of Birmingham CityChris Davies, manager of Birmingham City

July is upon us and that usually means that the transfer window starts to accelerate.

Birmingham City have plenty of irons in the fire with James Beadle, Demarai Gray and Fenerbahce flier Bright Osayi-Samuel among those who could wind up at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.

A breakthrough should be made now that the football financial year has turned. Today officially marks the start of the 2025/26 season.

And with that Blues can say farewell to the 12 players released at the end of last season.

Senior professionals Grant Hanley and Lee Myung-jae, plus 10 youngsters Ben Beresford, Junior Dixon, Taylor Dodd, Laiith Fairnie, Harley Hamilton, Josh Home, Femi Olofinjana, Sahid Kamara, Stoyan Pergelov and Oliver Sayer are no longer contracted to the club.

There has been no update on Hanley’s future, albeit the 33-year-old Scotland international reportedly has interest from League One sides, but Lee has returned to South Korea to sign for Daejeon Hana Citizen.

Lee played three times for Blues and joins second-placed Daejeon midway through the K-League season.

Former Blues under-21 goal-getter Dixon has signed for Boreham Wood after a successful loan in which he helped them earn promotion to the National League.

The signings of Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Alfons Sampsted and Phil Neumann will officially go through today as well. Gardner-Hickman and Sampsted’s loans from Bristol City and FC Twente have been made permanent, while Neumann arrives on a free transfer from Hannover 96.
