Wrexham AFC say they are “delighted” to announce the signing of Cymru international goalkeeper Danny Ward on a free transfer, pending registration and clearance.

Ward has signed a contract until the end of the 2027/28 season and becomes the second player to arrive at the Club this summer.

The 32-year-old stopper returns to the STōK Cae Ras after advancing through the youth set- up before leaving the Club in 2012 to join Liverpool.

A Welsh international, Ward went on to earn caps across several age-groups, making his senior debut in March 2016 and amassing 44 senior international caps to date.

The Wrexham-born keeper has played a key role on the international stage, making appearances at Euro 2016, Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

On signing for the Red Dragons, he said: “It’s an exciting time and an amazing feeling to be
back at the Club.

“I’m forever grateful for the opportunity that the Club gave me at an early age and I hope I
can repay that.”

Ward made his debut in the professional game while on loan from Wrexham for Tamworth, when he put in a man-of-the-match performance.

His solitary appearance for Wrexham came in a Welsh Cup clash against Airbus in 2011, in a youthful team as a fixture clash meant the first-team were in FA Cup action against Brentford on the same day.

He was also involved in Andy Morrell’s match-day squads during that season, before catching the eye of Liverpool whom he signed for in January 2012.

While with the Anfield club, he continued to develop in the Reds’ Under-18s and Under-23s
sides. Ward also gained valuable experience with loan spells at Morecambe and Aberdeen before being promoted to the Reds’ first team.

He impressed on his Premier League debut for Liverpool in 2016 with a 2-1 victory at Bournemouth, which was followed by another win against Swansea City.

Ward then went on to make the move across to Huddersfield Town on a season-long loan in 2016/17, where he played an integral role in their promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs.

After a six-year spell on Merseyside, he joined Leicester City, as the Foxes won the FA Cup and the Community Shield during his eight-year stint at the club.

In total, he made 52 appearances across all competitions, before leaving the King Power
Stadium following the expiry of his contract this summer.

On the signing of Ward, manager Phil Parkinson said: “We’re delighted to welcome Danny back to Wrexham. He’s a keeper with a lot of experience and he’s going to be a great addition to the squad.”
