Draper breaks for second time in set

Draper’s level has just dipped slightly but he’s still more than a match for Baez who defends his own serve on multiple occasions.
The British No 1 gets one chance to break serve from advantage and does so with a blistering cross court forehand!
The crowd goes nuts for that shot. Wow.

Baez plays on as Draper extends lead

Baez has chosen to play on despite how uncomfortable he is feeling.
This won’t help his mood either. Draper flings through four serves and leaves Baez with no chance to return any of them except the last.
That return is then whipped past the Argentine and Draper holds to love.

Draper up a break in the second set

Draper is looking really good. He drills a fine backhand down the line to draw level at 15-15 in the next game.
An attempted drop shot from Baez then hits the tape and he goes behind again.
Draper serves to the Argentine’s forehand and moves further ahead before securing his hold with a wide second serve that Baez whips too long.

A lovely forehand down the line from Draper offers up the chance to break.
He pushes a backhand onto the baseline from the next serve. Baez meets it with a backhand of his own but lofts his stroke too long.
Draper has another early break. He celebrates with a quick fist pump.

Baez defending serve in second set

Baez is quite a bit shorter than Draper and, as such, doesn’t have the same reach. He needs to be on his top game but is making a few simple errors when pushing the forehand too long.
Baez also misses a forehand volley from the net and Draper edges ahead 15-30.
Oh! Baez slips on court as Draper sends a forehand too long. The Argentine now leads but he might have twinged something. He seems okay to continue and loses the next point which takes the game to deuce.

The ball stays lower on grass which could play in Baez’s favour.
Not if Draper’s serve continues to be accurate. He’s sent down four aces already and Baez has struggled to return a bunch more.
A hold of serve to 15 ends the first set in less than half an hour.
Draper’s campaign is well underway now.

Despite being four games down, Baez is starting to tick. A wonderful inside out forehand lands right on the sideline and takes him through to a hold of serve.
Draper will now serve to win the set.

This has already been mightily impressive from Jack Draper. A couple of fizzing serves from the Brit forces Baez to err.
A big cross court forehand takes Draper to 40-0 before a wide ace brings him another hold of serve.
