Sheffield Wednesday are encountering a nightmare thanks to Dejphon Chansiri’s worsening financial mismanagement at Hillsborough.

Owls owner Chansiri failed to pay player and staff wages on time, or at all in some cases, in both May and June.

After seeing their salaries paid late for two consecutive months, Sheffield Wednesday players are now able to leave South Yorkshire on free transfers, subject to a 15-day notice period.

Meanwhile, boss Danny Rohl has attracted interest from Brentford as the Bees look to appoint fresh coaching staff for new manager Keith Andrews.

Amid their financial turmoil, Sheffield Wednesday have agreed to sell Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri to Premier League title hopefuls Manchester City.

But the academy starlet will be far from the Owls’ only summer departure, as the Sheffield Star revealed on Tuesday, 1 July, that some players have now handed in their notice after Chansiri failed to meet his wage obligations for a second consecutive month.

Meanwhile, despite supporters’ understandably growing frustrations, Chansiri has rejected two offers to buy Sheffield Wednesday from a Florida-based consortium.

Amid the news that members of the Sheffield Wednesday squad are now set to depart Hillsborough for free, regardless of their respective contract lengths, the South Yorkshire club have also been subject to a transfer embargo spanning three windows after Chansiri was charged for breaking EFL regulations.

Wednesday have been handed next season’s Championship fixtures

That will leave the Owls with a heavily depleted group of players next season, which is non-ideal as they look to prepare for an extremely testing Championship season.

The embargo means that Wednesday are still able to acquire new signings via free transfers and loan deals, but few prospective acquisitions.

Meanwhile, the senior squad currently have no scheduled pre-season friendlies, epitomising how tough day-to-day matters have become at Hillsborough under Chansiri.

It is currently difficult to envisage the Owls surviving in the Championship next season, while star man Barry Bannan is set for a Sheffield Wednesday exit alongside fellow senior players such as Callum Paterson.
