This week kicked off with a sizzling start as temperatures soared across the UK and the hottest day of the year so far recorded in Frittenden, Kent where the mercury reached 33.6C, according to the Met Office.

Here in Greater Manchester we baked on Monday with temperatures reaching the high 20s. Thankfully – if the heat has been too much for you – conditions are expected to cool off in the coming days, sitting at a more comfortable 20-22C.

We can expect some sunshine too, although sunny spells will be interspersed with a few clouds. But overall, it’s looking like a pleasant week ahead.

Weather like this calls for time spent outside and across Greater Manchester are parks and green spaces which are perfect for summer walks.

Among them is Etherow Country Park in Stockport. This 200-acre park is a lovely place to spend a summer’s day, or even stop by for an evening walk after work or school.

Featuring woodland, grassland and marshland, the park boasts a mixture of habitats. Flowing through it is the River Etherow and there’s even a weir-cum-waterfall you can admire.

At the heart of the park is a lake used by Etherow Country Park Sailing Club, which offers both courses for children and adults.

Throughout the park are lots of trails you can follow, as well as picnic benches where you can sit and relax.

Beside the park’s weir and the Keg Pool is Whitebottom Farm, known for hosting music events including Moovin Festival on the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Every weekend from 12pm to 5pm the farm opens up a tiny bar serving up beers from Hawkstone brewery as well as their own Aberdeen Angus burgers.

It’s a popular spot at weekends and a lovely place to be on a sunny day. For those visiting the park during the week, it’s well worth checking out The Potting Shed Garden centre for refreshment, which is open from 10am to 4.30pm Tuesday to Friday, and from 10am to 5pm at the weekend.
