Severe disruption is being felt across Worcestershire after damaged overhead wires caused trains going to and from Birmingham New Street Station to be cancelled.

West Midlands Railway revealed no trains will run from Birmingham New Street, Redditch, or Bromsgrove due to the issue.

The normal service is expected to resume by approximately 11pm.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Railway said: “Due to damage to the overhead electric wires at Birmingham New Street, services are being cancelled, diverted or delayed.

“Disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day.

“At this time, we are encouraging our customers to seek alternative travel arrangements.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we work to restore services.”

Who is affected by Birmingham New Street cancellations? 

The train companies affected by either cancellations or delays are Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, London Northwestern Railway, Transport for Wales and West Midlands Railway.

Replacement buses are in place from Longbridge, Redditch and Bromsgrove in both directions.
