Sergio Scariolo revealed Spain’s preliminary roster for the upcoming EuroBasket during a press conference held earlier today.

Along with the announcement, the decorated Italian coach confirmed that he will step down as head coach of the national team following the tournament.

This decision aligns with growing speculation in Spanish media that Scariolo is the leading candidate to take over as head coach of Real Madrid.

Scariolo has led the Spanish national team in two separate stints—first from 2009 to 2012, and then again from 2015 to the present day. During that time, he amassed an impressive collection of eight major international medals: a FIBA World Cup gold in 2019, four EuroBasket golds (2009, 2011, 2015, 2022), a EuroBasket bronze in 2017, and two Olympic medals—silver in London 2012 and bronze in Rio 2016.

Spain’s extended EuroBasket roster includes:

  • Alberto Abalde (Real Madrid)

  • Santi Aldama (Memphis Grizzlies)

  • Dario Brizuela (Barcelona)

  • Lorenzo Brown (Panathinaikos)

  • Alberto Díaz (Unicaja)

  • Juancho Hernangómez (Panathinaikos)

  • Willy Hernangómez (Barcelona)

  • Sergio de Larrea (Valencia)

  • Xabi López-Arostegui (Valencia)

  • Eli Ndiaye (Real Madrid)

  • Joel Parra (Barcelona)

  • Jaime Pradilla (Valencia)

  • Josep Puerto (Valencia)

  • Yankuba Sima (Unicaja)

  • Santi Yusta (Zaragoza)

This year’s EuroBasket will take place from August 27 to September 14. Spain will compete in Group C alongside host nation Cyprus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Greece, and Georgia.
