EastEnders officially made it to Glastonbury this year as former star James Bye celebrated a “bucket list” moment.

The actor played Martin Fowler for 11 years until the character died in heartbreaking scenes during the soap’s 40th anniversary in February, with the figure succumbing to his injuries following a devastating explosion at The Vic.

Martin’s death left a mark on the entire Walford community including Stacey Slater and their daughter Lily, but it seems that some Glasto-goers have been equally affected by his untimely demise.

As the major music festival took place over the weekend, some attendees took the chance to pay tribute to Martin as they planted a flag by their tent. Adorned with the character’s face, a slogan read: “gone but not forgotten.”

While not your usual camping paraphernalia, the unique prop had a moment at Glastonbury as it featured in several videos from the weekend, with the flag being brought to Bye’s attention as he posted a short clip of it on Instagram.

“Always wanted to make an appearance at Glastonbury! Even if it is on a flag!,” quipped the actor, who amusingly overlayed the post with Rod Stewart’s ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?’. “Cheers to whoever did that – bucket list moment right there.”

Whoever brought the flag to Somerset’s Worthy Farm certainly isn’t alone in missing Martin on the soap, as Bye’s former co-star Diane Parish, who portrays Denise Fox, commented: “Only right.”

Fans were also enthused by the existence of the flag, with one user writing: “Love this!! Should have been on one of the side screens at the Pyramid Stage! #gonebutneverforgotten🙏”

Another user also confirmed that a similar item had been made in honour of fellow EastEnders icon Sonia Fowler, with the fan writing: “I can’t believe the flag owner didn’t find the Sonia flag owner – that would’ve been majestic!!!”

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
