Whether you’ve just found out or are on the other side of it, battling cancer isn’t an easy feat.

Though she’s in remission, Kate Middleton’s recovery has apparently proven to be a difficult one.

The first hint of this could’ve been her withdrawal from Royal Ascot.

But during a visit to Colchester Hospital on Wednesday, the Princess of Wales opened up about the difficult aftereffects of her cancer treatment, labeling this moment of her life as “really, really difficult.”

“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment,” she explained, per Page Six. “Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually [that’s not the case].”

Though she’s no longer under active medical supervision, Middleton mentioned that she cannot “function normally at home as [she] perhaps once used to.”

Something that helped her see this through was the support she’s received..

“[Having] someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment … is really valuable,” she said.

She also noted that finding a “new normal … takes time.”

“It’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be. But the reality is, you go through hard times,” the princess added.

The wife of Prince William first announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 after a private two-month recovery period after undergoing abdominal surgery.

During that time, she said, “Prince William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”

Fast forward to September 2024, and her chemotherapy was completed. Then in a January update, she revealed the fortunate news that she was cancer-free.
