Switzerland and Germany have signed an agreement concerning the joint procurement of ground-based air defense systems as part of the European Union’s “Sky Shield” initiative. This information was confirmed by the official website of the Swiss government.

According to the agreement, the Swiss Federal Armaments Administration (Armasuisse) intends to purchase medium-range air defense systems from the German company Diehl Defence GmbH & Co.KG. The Swiss government reports that negotiations with the manufacturer are already in the final stages, and the contract will be signed soon.

“The agreement aligns with the goals of the Federal Council’s armament policy strategy. Closer cooperation in the field of ground-based air defense with neighboring and partner countries increases Switzerland’s capabilities. Through joint procurement via the ESSI initiative, participating states can benefit from cost savings. Additionally, cooperative purchases will improve interoperability among partner countries.”

It is worth noting that in May 2025, Ukraine signed a contract with the German company Diehl Defence for the production of IRIS-T air defense systems and corresponding missiles. The total value of this deal amounts to 2.2 billion euros.

For the Ukrainian Defense Forces, the supply of additional artillery ammunition, ground weaponry, small arms, and air defense systems is planned. Germany will also provide support in communications and medical fields.

Furthermore, Germany plans to provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth 5 billion euros.
