Merseyside is expected to see an “increasingly breezy” day on Friday as we near the weekend, with heavy rain forecast to hit the region this afternoon. It comes after temperatures reached late twenties in the region in recent days.

Sweltering temperatures hit parts of southern and eastern England earlier this week after highs of more than 33C rounded off June. It comes after the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) extended amber heat health alerts for much of the country into Wednesday morning.

Monday saw the hottest start to Wimbledon on record, with 32.9C recorded at nearby Kew Gardens, while 33.1C was recorded at Heathrow. However as we approach the weekend temperatures have cooled.

Today, Friday, July 4, temperatures have dropped to highs of 21C in Merseyside with rain arriving from the north. The meteorologists said: “Friday early brightness quickly disappearing as cloud builds.

“Rain arriving from the north in the afternoon. Increasingly breezy for all, though especially around coasts and hills. Maximum temperature 21 °C.”

Rain is expected to turn heavy and persistent into the evening before easing during the second half of the night. The Met office said it will remain breezy and cloudy throughout with hill fog. Mild. Minimum temperature 14 °C.

Here is the full forecast for Friday.
