After Hull City were handed a three-transfer window ban, Sheffield United could capitalise by signing their top target.
Going into the 2025/26 Championship season, two clubs have been hit with transfer embargoes. Sheffield Wednesday have picked up three embargoes by the EFL after several off-the-pitch issues overseen by Dejphon Chansiri, including being unable to pay players and staff.
The other club that have since been handed their orders are Hull City, with Acun Ilicali being blamed by Tigers fans for the embargo that they have received.
This means that, like Sheffield Wednesday, Hull City will not be able to pay fees for players, leaving them with only the option of free agents and loans without fees.
Hull were linked to a catalogue of players before the penny dropped, and it would make sense for Sheffield United to capitalise by looking at one key target of the Tigers who would transform Ruben Selles’ side.

There will be pressure on new Sheffield United boss Ruben Selles to deliver a promotion-winning campaign this season, and as a result, the board will likely back their new coach on signings.
Near the top of the list of priorities for Selles will certainly be to bring in a forward to add to the current options that notably include Tom Cannon, Kieffer Moore, and Rhian Brewster.
With the hope of adding some pace, dynamism, and goalscoring threat to the side, it would make sense for Sheffield United to take a look at Matija Frigan. Having shone at KVC Westerlo for the last two seasons, the Croatian 22-year-old has been linked with a seven-figure move to Hull City, but now the Tigers could have left an open net for the Blades to capitalise.
Frigan boasts goalscoring ability as a priority, but he is also nimble on his feet and will provide Championship defences with nightmares. In some cases, he has even been referred to as being Ronaldinho-esque, as seen by his magnificent solo goal against FCV Dender.
Ruben Selles would be keen to add Matija Frigan to his forward line
While Sheffield United do have some top quality on paper in attack, questions were understandably asked about some of the players at times during the 2024/25 Championship season.
Surprisingly, Tom Cannon struggled to get going in Chris Wilder’s side, with the former Leicester City man bagging just one goal for Sheffield United, despite his earlier stint on loan at Stoke City ending with an impressive return of nine goals in 22.
Kieffer Moore is also a dependable forward to have but lacks the pace and excitement that Ruben Selles may wish to call upon to take a game by the scruff of the neck. That is where Matija Frigan comes in.
With the young, ambitious and strong forward set for a move, Sheffield United need to make themselves look like the best destination for the Croatian.
