Friday night at the Lytham Festival has been cancelled due to the weather, organisers have confirmed.

Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette was due to headline the seaside festival in Lancashire, but the evening has been cancelled.

In a statement, organisers blamed predicted ‘adverse weather conditions’ and the likelihood of ‘increasing high winds’ throughout Friday night.

It’s understood a decision was taken on site together with the police as crowds were inside the arena.

Images being shared on social media show a billboard sign at the festival saying: “Ladies and gentlemen, this performance will not be continuing.”

Crowds were told to make their way out of the arena via available exits and follow the advice of stewards.

Lottery Winners, Train and Liz Phair were due to perform, with Alanis Morissette due to have been on stage at 8.30pm.

There’s been no word about the festival on Saturday and Sunday as yet, with Justin Timberlake and Simple Minds set to headline, together with planned performances from Texas, Cast and Jess Glynne.

In a statement, TK Maxx presents Lytham Festival said safety came first and all those with tickets would receive a full refund.

The statement said: “Due to adverse weather conditions, we unfortunately have had to make the decision to cancel this evening. The safety of our customers, staff and artists is our priority and increasing high winds mean it would not be safe to go ahead.

“All customers will receive a full refund for tonight’s show. Please wait to hear from your ticket agent for further information.”
