Preparations for the 2025-26 season are about to commence, and Manchester United have made a big decision.

On Friday, Ruben Amorim returned to Carrington and immediately got stuck into tackling the big problems at Manchester United this summer.

The coaching staff have returned days before the United squad are due to return on July 7th, and there have clearly been some decisions to make.

In the hours after returning to the training ground, it has been confirmed that United have handed Matheus Cunha the number 10 shirt, signalling the end for one player in particular.

However, a bigger decision has been made regarding to future of the five players whom Amorim has no intention of using next season.

There has been plenty of talk around United forming a โ€˜bomb squadโ€™ this summer, with a number of players simply having no future under Amorim.

However, despite talk, it was claimed that Marcus Rashford, for one, was planning to return for pre-season; however, the chances of this have just been slashed.

United in Focus understands that five United players have told the club they want to leave. As a result, United have told them not to report for pre-season on Monday, giving them extra time to explore potential summer exits further.

The quintet will now have to search for a solution and finalise moves; otherwise, they are expected to return later this month, likely for the tour of the USA. It is worth mentioning that United are allowing the listed players to use facilities and medical support throughout this period.

After the news of Unitedโ€™s decision over these five players emerged, Fabrizio Romano took to X with updates on a couple of them.

Alejandro Garnacho

Garnacho should have been the most sellable asset this summer; however, his desire to remain in England has slowed down the chances of a big sale.

Chelsea look unlikely having signed two new forwards already, while Aston Villa remain an option for United. Romano has reported that Garnacho wonโ€™t be back in training anytime soon.

Antony

In terms of Antony, it seems like a matter of time until he joins Real Betis. Romano adds to the situation by sharing that the Brazilian was โ€˜never gonna stayโ€™ at United this summer.

Betis are confident United will give in on the Antony deal, with a unique co-ownership deal expected to be worked on.

Jadon Sancho

Currently, the most likely exit for United appears to be Sancho, with the Englishman reportedly in talks with Juventus, with only his wage standing in the way.

If he has professional pride, he will surely take a hit and move to Serie A.

Marcus Rashford

Despite reports around the player expecting to be in pre-season training, United have sent a clear message to Rashford that heโ€™s not in the plans.

Rashfordโ€™s chances of a Barcelona move have been boosted this week, so hopefully this can accelerate immediately.

Tyrell Malacia

Unlike the others in this list, United are struggling to find suitors for Malacia, which doesnโ€™t bode well.
